Paul H. Rabinowitz, born in 1939, is a professor of mathematics at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where he holds the Edward Burr Van Vleck and Vilas Research Professorships. He earned his Ph.D. from New York University in 1966 under Jürgen Moser and held a postdoctoral position at Stanford University from 1966 to 1969. Rabinowitz is noted for his work in partial differential equations and nonlinear analysis, particularly known for his global bifurcation theory. He has received numerous awards, including the George David Birkhoff Prize in 1998 and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences since 1998.
