Paula Kann Valar was an Austrian-American alpine skier born in Vienna in 1922. She began skiing at six and moved to the U.S. in 1940. A competitor from 1941, she won multiple honors including the American downhill championship in 1946 and competed in the 1948 Winter Olympics, where she placed 28th in Women's downhill and 11th in Women's slalom. Post-retirement, she married fellow skier Paul Valar and became a ski instructor, with both inducted into the National Ski Hall of Fame in 1970.
