Peggy Whitson is an American astronaut and biochemist, born in 1960. She held the position of Chief of the Astronaut Office from October 1, 2009, to July 1, 2012, and was the commander of the International Space Station during Expedition 16 from October 10, 2007, to April 10, 2008. Whitson made significant contributions to space exploration, including multiple spacewalks, setting records for the most spacewalks by a woman. She has spent a total of 665 days in space, making her one of NASA's most experienced astronauts.
