Rikvold earned his cand.real. degree at the University of Oslo in 1976 and his PhD at Temple University in 1983. He is the James G. Skofronick Professor of Physics at Florida State University and is affiliated with several important research centers. Additionally, he is a fellow of both the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters and the American Physical Society.
