He served as the mayor of Skive Municipality from 2002 to 2006 for the Social Democrats and was a council member since 1982. In the 2005 municipal election, he received the highest personal vote. After serving as director of Kulturcenter Limfjord and being convicted of electoral fraud in 2012, he returned to the city council in 2017 representing Skive-Listen, where he was re-elected in 2021.
