He served as the director for the Norwegian divisions of major labels including Ariola, Virgin, and EMI. Johansen was behind the success of several prominent artists and bands such as Madrugada, Lene Marlin, Röyksopp, Turboneger, Sondre Lerche, and Morten Abel. In 2000, he received the Bjellesauprisen award for his achievements with Norwegian artists. He also had a background as a musician, notably as a vocalist in punk bands.
