Per Kristen Kofstad (1929-1997) was a Norwegian chemist with a Ph.D. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1953 and later received a dr. philos. degree from the University of Oslo in 1964. Kofstad led the high-temperature materials group at the Central Institute for Industrial Research from 1954 to 1967 and served as research director from 1968 to 1974. He became a professor of inorganic chemistry at the University of Oslo in 1975 and led the Center for Materials Research at the university from 1990 to 1994.
