He served as an INSA Senior Scientist and held the Astra chair professorship at the Indian Institute of Science. Adiga was an esteemed fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences and the Indian National Science Academy. His significant contributions to medical sciences were recognized with the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize awarded by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research in 1980.
