Perry O. Crawford, Jr. was an American computer pioneer born on August 9, 1917. He is recognized for his important contributions to digital computing, particularly in real-time applications. In 1945, he advised Jay Forrester in the development of flight simulators and anti-aircraft fire control devices during World War II. Twelve years later, he led the design team for IBM's SABRE project, a pioneering ticketing system for American Airlines, which became the first large-scale commercial application of real-time computer systems and set the standard for online transaction processing.
