Pete Hoekstra is an American politician who served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Netherlands from 2018 to 2021. He is a member of the Republican Party and represented Michigan's 2nd congressional district in the United States House of Representatives from 1993 to 2011. Hoekstra was born in Groningen, Netherlands, and moved to the United States as a child. He attended Hope College and the University of Michigan, and earned an MBA from the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business. Hoekstra was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1992 and served until 2011. He was a member of the House Intelligence Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Hoekstra was appointed by President Donald Trump to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the Netherlands in 2017, and he served in that role until 2021.
