Peter Henry Abrahams (1919–2017) was a South African novelist, poet, journalist, and political commentator. Born in Vrededorp near Johannesburg, he had an Ethiopian father and a mixed-race mother. Abrahams left South Africa in 1940 to work as a sailor and later as a journalist in England, meeting black leaders like Jomo Kenyatta. His notable works include 'Mine Boy' and 'The Path of Thunder', the latter about forbidden love between black and white individuals, translated into almost thirty languages. He lived in Jamaica from 1956 until his death in January 2017.
