Peter Alexander Rupert Carington, 6th Baron Carrington, was a prominent British politician and member of the Conservative Party. He served as Foreign Secretary from 1979 to 1982 and later as the sixth Secretary General of NATO from 1984 to 1988. Additionally, he held various positions including Secretary of State for Energy and Secretary of State for Defence during Edward Heath's premiership. His earlier career included service in the British Army, where he attained the rank of Major in the Grenadier Guards. He was also Chancellor of the Order of the Garter.
