Peter J. Delfyett Jr. is an American physicist known for his work in laser technology. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the City College of New York in 1981 and a Master's from the University of Rochester in 1983. After completing his PhD in 1988, he joined Bellcore, focusing on semiconductor lasers. He has been a professor at the University of Central Florida since 1993, where he leads the Charles Townes Laser Institute. Delfyett has received numerous awards, holds over 800 publications and 43 patents, and served as President of the National Society of Black Physicists in 2013.
