Peter Greil is a German materials scientist born in 1954 in Adelmannsfelden. He studied crystal chemistry and mineralogy at the University of Stuttgart, earning his Diploma in 1980 and later his PhD in metallurgy in 1982. He has held prestigious positions, including Professor for Technical Ceramics at TU Hamburg-Harburg and Professor for Silicate Chemistry at the University of Würzburg. Greil is known for his research in non-oxide ceramics and biomimetic materials, developing new ceramic composite materials. He received several awards, including the Gottfried-Wilhelm-Leibniz Prize.
