Peter Groth is a German mechanical engineer born on August 1, 1938, in Stettin, Pomerania. He co-developed the world's first FEM program, ESEM, alongside Alfred Zimmer in 1963 at Daimler Benz AG in Stuttgart. In 1969, they authored the first German textbook on the finite element method, titled 'Elementmethode der Elastostatik.' Groth later established his own company in 1971, producing TPS10, the best-selling German FEM program until the end of the last century. He later worked as a professor at Hochschule Esslingen.
