He competed in the men's 200 metre backstroke at the 1976 Summer Olympics and won the British Championships title in the same event in 1975 and 1976. Lerpiniere attended Millfield School and later had a 30-year Police Service career, followed by 6 years training recruits, and eventually became a lecturer at Canterbury Christ Church University in the field of Law, Criminal Justice, and Computing.
