Peter Mädler (July 10, 1943 – April 26, 1963) was a victim of the Berlin Wall. He was adopted and lived in Hoyerswerda. From 1958 to 1961, he trained as an electrician. Mädler attempted to escape from East Germany to West Berlin by swimming across the Teltow Canal but was shot by East German border guards. Though he initially submerged unharmed, he was fatally hit when he surfaced near the border. His body was recovered later that day, and he was buried in Hoyerswerda.
