He served as the executive officer to General David Petraeus during the Iraq War, especially during the 2007 troop surge. Mansoor holds the General Raymond E. Mason Jr. Chair of Military History at Ohio State University. He authored two significant memoirs about his Iraq service, receiving notable awards for them. His works focus on military history, specifically concerning the operations of American forces in Iraq and Europe during World War II.
