Peter Charles Orton was a British media entrepreneur and television producer, born on June 17, 1943. He was renowned for his contributions to children's television, co-founding HIT Entertainment in 1982 alongside Jim Henson and Sophie Turner Laing. Orton served as the leader of the company from 1989 until 2005, when he sold it to Apax. Following the sale, he retired but maintained a strong presence in the entertainment industry until his passing on December 5, 2007.
