Peter Schönfelder was a German botanist and plant geographer, born on April 29, 1940, in Breslau and passed away on July 7, 2020, in Pentling near Regensburg. He held a professorship in geobotany at the University of Regensburg and was recognized for his mapping of the flora of Bavaria and Germany. Outside the academic community, he gained fame for his works on the flora of the Mediterranean region and the Canary Islands, becoming a leading expert in the Old World Mediterranean flora. He co-authored numerous plant guides with his wife Ingrid Schönfelder.
