Peter William Sutcliffe, known as the Yorkshire Ripper, was a British serial killer convicted in 1981 for the murders of 13 women and attempted murder of seven others. He frequented prostitutes in Leeds and Bradford, with his violent outbursts linked to payment disputes. Sutcliffe claimed to have been commanded by the voice of God to commit the murders. Arrested in January 1981 for driving with false plates, he confessed to the killings during police questioning. Although he pleaded not guilty due to diminished responsibility from schizophrenia, his plea was rejected, resulting in a life sentence.
