Peter Van Gelder (born March 19, 1940) is a sitarist and musician known for playing saxophone and bass in the band The Great Society. After moving to San Francisco post-college, he developed an interest in Indian music while working at a radio station. He studied sitar under Ali Akbar Khan in California and later in India, becoming his disciple. After three years, he returned to California where he formed the band The Saddhu Brand. Van Gelder is also an instructor at the Ali Akbar College of Music in San Rafael, California.
