Petra Tierlich, née Völkel, born on February 25, 1945, in Vielau, Saxony, is a former East German luger. She began her sports career at ESV Lok Zwickau and later moved to SC Traktor Oberwiesenthal. Tierlich won silver medals at the world championships in 1965 and 1967 and achieved her greatest success by becoming the world champion in 1969, earning the Patriotic Order of Merit. After retiring due to a herniated disc, she returned to Zwickau to work as a coach and played volleyball until 1975.
