Petras Polekauskas was a Lithuanian officer born on May 9, 1909, in Mariampole, Poland. He served in various military roles including the Lithuanian army and the Red Army, later working in auxiliary police battalions formed by Nazi Germany. He is notorious for ordering the execution of 39 Polish civilians in 1944. Following WWII, he became a refugee in West Germany due to the Soviet reoccupation of Lithuania, eventually emigrating to the USA in the 1950s, where he settled in Hartford, Connecticut before tragically taking his own life on April 19, 1965.
