Phil Dodds, an audio engineer born on May 17, 1951, gained recognition for his work on the 1977 film Close Encounters of the Third Kind. As the Vice President of Engineering at ARP Instruments, he engineered the ARP 2500 synthesizer for the movie. Dodds had appeared in other notable films, such as Logan's Run and early Star Trek movies. He also contributed significantly to web-based instruction through the SCORM model with the ADL Initiative. Dodds, who was the grandson of navigational pioneer Philip Van Horn Weems, passed away on October 6, 2007.
