Philip Dominic Seghi was an influential American front-office executive in Major League Baseball, best known for signing Pete Rose while with the Cincinnati Reds in 1960. Seghi played an important role in developing the Reds' player system that laid the groundwork for the successful 'Big Red Machine' dynasty. After a successful tenure with the Reds, he later worked with the Oakland Athletics and served as general manager for the Cleveland Indians where he appointed Frank Robinson as MLB's first African-American manager. Seghi passed away from cancer in 1987.
