Philippe Carles (March 2, 1941 - October 14, 2023) was a prominent French jazz journalist and author. He studied medicine from 1958 but abandoned it in 1963. Starting his journalism career in 1962, he joined Jazz Magazine in 1964 and became editor-in-chief in 1971, holding the position until 2006. Carles also worked as a music producer and host for France Musique between 1971 and 2008. He authored several books and contributed to the Dictionnaire du jazz, significantly influencing the jazz community in France.
