Philippe Taquet is a French paleontologist born on April 25, 1940, known for his specialization in dinosaur taxonomy in North Africa. He served as the director of the National Museum of Natural History from 1985 to 1990 and has been a member of the French Academy of Sciences since November 30, 2004, serving as president since 2012. Taquet has studied and described several African dinosaurs, like Ouranosaurus, particularly from the Aptian stage at the Gadoufaoua site in Niger. His research also includes early Cretaceous stratigraphy and connections between West Africa and Brazil.
