Pieter-Dirk Uys, born on September 28, 1945, in Cape Town, is a South African satirist, performer, writer, and social activist. He is the son of an Afrikaner father and a Berlin-born Jewish mother. Raised in the traditions of the NG Kerk, Uys was educated at the Afrikaanse staatskool in Mowbray and Hoërskool Nassau. He is renowned for his alter ego, Evita Bezuidenhout, a politically engaged character who provides social commentary in a satirical manner. In 2005, he received the Honorary Award for Theatre Arts from the South African Academy of Science and Arts.
