She graduated from Åbo Akademi with various degrees from 1972 to 1992, including her doctoral thesis on expert systems in strategic management. Walden has authored around 120 scientific publications and has held various academic positions at Åbo Akademi and Tampere University of Technology. She has been a member of the Finnish Academy of Science since 2006.
