Potti Sreeramulu (1901-1952) was an Indian freedom fighter known for his significant role in the struggle for a separate Telugu-speaking state, Andhra. He gained fame through his 56-day hunger strike, which ended in his death and incited public riots. Revered in Andhra as Amarajeevi, he championed Dalit rights and actively participated in India's independence movement, including the Salt Satyagraha and Quit India movements. His efforts culminated in the formation of Andhra State on 1 October 1953. Sreeramulu's legacy is marked by his self-sacrifice and dedication to the cause of Telugu identity and rights.
