He is the founding director of the Centre for Global Health Research at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. His research concentrates on premature mortality due to various factors including HIV/AIDS, tobacco, alcohol, malaria, as well as issues related to maternal and child health, and both infectious and non-communicable diseases.
