Pyotr Naumovich Shumsky was a Don writer and poet born on May 8, 1903, in Topilin, Razdorsky District, Rostov Oblast, Russia. He became a member of the Soviet Writers' Union in 1941 and was also a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. Shumsky contributed to Soviet literature until his death on November 19, 1956.
