Gerda 'Pytt' Geddes (1917–2006) was instrumental in introducing tai chi to the UK. Originally from Bergen, Norway, she was the daughter of a politician. During WWII, she joined the Norwegian resistance and later moved to Shanghai with her husband, where she discovered tai chi. After moving to Hong Kong, she studied under notable figures in tai chi. Geddes was also friends with famous composer Benjamin Britten and studied psychology in the US. Her contributions to tai chi have made a lasting impact in the UK.
