Jaroslav Šustr was a member of the Czechoslovak army during the First Republic. After the German occupation of Czechoslovakia, he joined the domestic resistance, specifically the national defense group. He escaped the Protectorate and served in the Czechoslovak foreign army as well as in the Ministry of Defense in the UK. Towards the end of World War II, he was a military attaché in China. After returning to Czechoslovakia, he was part of the military mission to the Allied Control Council in Germany. He emigrated to the USA in 1948.
