Liu Chong-zu (February 25, 1942 – September 30, 2007) was a Taiwanese inventor known for creating the Bopomofo input method. He was also the founder of Hsing Yi Co., Ltd. Liu was born in Fengyuan, Taichung during Japanese rule and moved to Taipei in 1951. He attended Taipei Municipal Chenggong High School and National Chengchi University before pursuing graduate studies in Belgium and France, where he studied anthropology. After returning to Taiwan, he ran a trading business before establishing his own company in 1989.
