She attained the title of Doctor of Philological Sciences in 2002 and has served as a professor at the Department of Russian Language at Tambov State University since 1995. Piskunova leads the laboratory focused on modern dialects within the context of Russian language culture. Her research areas include dialectal phonology, lexicology and lexicography, text theory and linguistic analysis, and the communicative function of text in various speech situations.
