Ashot Ilio Karapetyan, born on April 20, 1935, in Vagharshapat, Armenian SSR, USSR, is an Armenian geologist and a prominent figure in the field of geology and mineral sciences. He holds the title of Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences obtained in 1980, and he became a professor in 1982. Karapetyan was elected as an academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia in 1996 and was a corresponding member since 1990.
