Stanislav Veniaminovich Petrov (born April 3, 1939) is a Soviet and Russian military leader, holding the rank of Colonel General since 1990. He was the head of the Chemical Troops of the Ministry of Defense of the USSR from 1989 to 1992 and later led the Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Protection Troops of the Armed Forces of Russia from 1992 to 2001. Petrov is a recipient of the Lenin Prize awarded in 1991, and he holds a Doctorate in military sciences, which he obtained in 2001.
