Zachariah Ahmad Al-Shurabaji, known as Abu Yahya, was a leader of the Al-Qassam Brigades. Born on April 8, 1960, he was affiliated with Hamas since its inception. In 1989, he was captured by Israel and during his imprisonment, he collaborated with Muhammad Deif and Salah Shehadeh to establish a new branch of Hamas, focusing on capturing and killing occupying soldiers. This led to the formation of the Al-Qassam Brigades in 1990. He was assassinated by Israel after a prolonged manhunt in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood in 1993.
