Pyotr Nikiforovich Nikifor was a Mari Soviet musician, conductor, and educator born on November 28, 1912, in Fadeykino. He served as a teacher at the Yoshkar-Ola Music College from 1945 to 1983 and founded the Folk Instruments Orchestra, conducting it from 1937 to 1972. A key figure in establishing the Mari school of string folk instruments, he was honored as a Merited Artist of the Mari ASSR in 1951 and also participated in World War II.
