Alexander Ivanovich Nikonov (March 29, 1947 – July 28, 2022) was a prominent defense technology engineer from Kurghan, Russia. He served as the General Director and Chief Designer of OAO 'Special Design Bureau of Mechanical Engineering' from 1992 to 2009, and was the chief designer for the Kurghan Machine Engineering Plant named after V.I. Lenin from 1989 to 1992. Nikonov was also noted for his role as the chief designer of the BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle from 1983 to 1987.
