He comes from the old Voloshyn family and is the nephew of renowned Ukrainian artist Vasyl Dmytrovych Chehodar. His uncle, Anatoliy Petrovich Voloshyn, was a noted sports journalist and author. His wife, Kateryna Voloshyna, is a musicologist and art historian. He has two sons, Oleksiy (an actor) and Vasyl (a preschooler).
