He serves as the deputy director of the National Antarctic Scientific Center and is a diving instructor. Marchenko has participated in expeditions to Spitsbergen Island and the 25th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition. He is also noted for being a participant in the war in Eastern Ukraine.
