Євген Варда (April 11, 1942 - January 6, 1992) was a Ukrainian-Assyrian translator, writer, journalist, dissident, and participant in the Ukrainian cultural revival. Fluent in both Aramaic and Ukrainian, he translated significant works, such as 'The Humorous Stories' and the ancient Sumerian epic 'Gilgamesh'. Notably, he introduced Taras Shevchenko and other Ukrainian writers to the Assyrian community. During Ukraine's independence, he led an ideological department in the 'Prosvita' society, actively protesting and advocating for cultural issues until his sudden death from a heart attack at a public event.
