Vitaliy Ivanovych Kononenko (September 9, 1933 - July 2, 2024) was a Soviet and Ukrainian linguist and scholar. He earned his Doctorate in Philology in 1977 and became a professor in 1979. A corresponding member of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, his research encompassed general, Ukrainian, Slavic, and comparative linguistics. Kononenko authored over 600 scientific works covering syntax, comparative grammar, phraseology, stylistics, culture of language, ethnolinguistics, and language didactics, including textbooks and methodological developments.
