Misak Vagharsaki Melkonyan (1938-2008) was an Armenian horticulturist and plant breeder. He was born on March 13, 1938, in Tzeberlda, Gulripshi district, Abkhazia, and passed away on November 7, 2008, in Yalta, Crimea. Melkonyan earned his Doctor of Biological Sciences degree in 1981 and was named a professor in 1993. He became an academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia in 1996, having been a corresponding member since 1990.
