Taras Mykyša (1913-1958) was a Ukrainian pianist, teacher, and composer. Born in Pryimivka, he studied in Kyiv and Moscow, before moving to Vienna from 1927 to 1933, studying under Joseph Marx. He graduated in 1930 and pursued master classes with Paul Weingarten, completing his studies in piano and music theory in 1933. After starting his solo career in 1933 and renouncing Soviet citizenship in 1935, he often performed in the West. He served as a piano teacher in Buenos Aires from 1947 and created piano compositions based on Ukrainian folk music.
