Gennady Grigoryevich Polikarpov (August 16, 1929 - August 11, 2012) was a Soviet and Ukrainian scientist in the fields of radiobiology and marine hydrobiology, and he is recognized as the founder of marine radioecology. He earned a Doctor of Biological Sciences degree in 1964 and became a professor in 1968. In 1990, he was elected an academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences and was honored as a Distinguished Figure in Science and Technology of Ukraine in 1998. He also received the State Prize of Ukraine for Science and Technology in 2007.
