He graduated from the Kyiv Art Institute in 1953 and was known for monumental and easel sculptures such as 'Spear Thrower' (1951) and 'Koliyivshchyna' (1954). A veteran of both the Soviet-Finnish War and World War II, he was an artillery commander. Seminal works include a memorial to his classmates who died defending Kyiv and various sporting-themed sculptures, reflecting his background as a former athlete.
